The institute aims to serve as a centre for Indonesian law development studies. It conducts and promotes research projects, and collects relevant documentation on legal issues with an aim to enhance and distribute the knowledge.

Our strength is based on knowledge diversity and independence. CELI founders had a very diversified knowledge and skills, ranging from international law, european law to constitutional law. The founders also worked at different institutions, public and private, lawfirms, NGO, reasearch institution and the media. The range of network also varies according to its higher education (Master's Degree): one graduated from Germany (with distinction), one from UK (also with distinction) and one from the Netherlands (honorable mention). Some has international publication and also wrote op-eds.

Independence is another key strength. Ever since its inception, CELI has never succumb itself to any donor or interest other than our own organisational interest. An explanation to this is because the founders do not rely its bread and butter from CELI. Each has their own sustainable and promising career and future at their respective institutions. CELI is only a melting pot upon which our idealism is to be channeled.
